Good Project has been backed into 2015 Railway Stakes odds of $6 and he has been a clear market mover in betting markets for the Group 1 event at Ascot this afternoon.
Good Project opened at a quote of $6 when the Railway Stakes final field was released earlier this week, but there has been strong support for the progressive galloper during the week and he is now on the fourth line of betting.
The Not A Single Doubt entire started his 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a win in the Mack Trucks Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 12 and he performed well without winning in the More Than Winning Handicap (1400m) at the same venue on September 26 and the Lindblad Expeditions Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick on October 10.
Good Project returned to winning form in the Bartier Perry Lawyers Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick on October 17 and he did enough when second behind Malaguerra in the Lavazza Short Black Handicap (1400m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day to convince connections that he was deserving of a trip to Perth for the 2015 Railway Stakes.
While Good Project has been the best-backed runner in Railway Stakes betting markets, two-time Group 1 winner Delicacy remains favourite at a quote of $4.40 with Ladbrokes.
Delicacy stamped herself as a mare to follow when she took out the Listed 1000 Guineas (1800m) on February 28 and the Listed Natasha Stakes (2200m) on March 14 earlier this year, but she went to another level when she took out the Group 3 Western Australian Oaks (2400m) on March 28 and the Group 2 WATC Derby (2400m) on April 11 before she made the trip to South Australia and lay claim to the title of three-year-old filly of the year with wins in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville on May 2 and the Group 1 South Australian Derby (2500m) at the same venue a week later.
The daughter of Al Maher returned to the races with a third place finish behind Black Heart Bart in the Group 2 Waroa-Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on November 7 and he went to the top of Railway Stakes betting markets when jockey William Pike elected to ride her over Perth Cup winner Real Love, who is currently priced at a quote of $4.80 to record a maiden win at Group 1 level.
The only other horse that is available at single figure Railway Stakes odds is Vaughn Sigley-trained Black Heart Bart, who is at a quote of $5 to take out the $1 million event.
Black Hart Bart started his summer campaign with a win in the Listed Birthday Stakes (1200m) at Belmont Park on October 3 and he showed a great deal of tenacity to take out the Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1420m) at Ascot on October 21 and the Group 2 Waroa-Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) on November 7.
There has been a sprinkling of support in the 2015 Railway Stakes betting market for Bass Strait ($91 into $81) and Tower Of Lonhro ($41 into $21), while Messene ($11 out to $12), Wink And A Nod ($17 out to $21), Battle Hero ($26 out to $31), Mr Utopia ($21 out to $26), My Sister Lil ($34 out to $51) and Special Delivery ($34 out to $41) have all been on the drift.
