Good barrier to help Stay With Me in Thousand Guineas

A good barrier draw is a huge advantage for the well supported filly Stay With Me in the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Stay With Me at $4.60 with Ladbrokes.com.au is battling out favouritism with the Peter Moody trained Pasadena Girl at $4.40 and could give David Hayes his third success in the Thousand Guineas.

These days Hayes trains in partnership with Tom Dabernig but before teaming up with his nephew, trained the winners of the 2006 and 2009 Thousand Guineas with Miss Finland and Irish Lights.

Stay With Me has drawn barrier four in the eleven horse field and Dabernig said that if Dwayne Dunn can take advantage of the good gate, she will have a strong chance of claiming the title.

“Really happy with the barrier draw,” Dabernig said.

“It is very important that she is just left alone or ridden neutral in the early part. If she enjoys a nice run, as I think she will from that gate, she has a great turn of foot.”

Stay With Me has won two of her five starts and found the winner’s stall for the first time three runs back in a 1200m Pakenham three year old Maiden on August 20.

Hayes and Dabernig then brought the Street Cry filly to town and she looked good in scoring a come from behind one and half lengths win over Pasadena Girl in the Listed $120,000 Telstra Phonewords Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 5.

But Stay With Me failed to run on off a slow early pace when sixth to Miss Gunpowder in the Group 2 $200,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield two weeks ago.

Dunn will be hoping for a more solid pace in the early and middle stages this week to give Stay With Me every chance to use her devastating finish she displayed in winning two starts back.

Thousand Guineas Prelude winner Miss Gunpowder is well up the market order at $6 alongside of the Mick Price trained Badawiya.

Badawiya has improved sharply with recent racing and after winning a 1400m Pakenham BenchMark 64 Handicap on September 23 took out the Group 2 $200,000 TAB Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington last Sunday.

If you like to bet early in the day at Caulfield on Saturday you can get 50% extra on your first fixed odds winner in races 1 – 5 on the ten race program for a maximum bet of $50.

Thousand Guineas market order at Ladbrokes.com.au: $4.40 Pasadena Girl, $4.60 Stay With Me, $6 Miss Gunpowder, Badawiya, $9 Jameka, $15 Sagaronne, Super Cash, $19 Payroll, $21 Alaskan Rose, $26 Take Pride, Don’t Doubt Marley.
