Trainer Leon Macdonald has revealed that Group 1 winning filly Go Indy Go will return to the races in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 30.
Go Indy Go was sent straight to the spelling paddock after she scored an impressive win in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 26, but has been back in work for over a month and is just about to begin serious trackwork.
“She has been in work for five weeks or something like that and will probably head towards the McNeill Quality at the end of August,” Macdonald told Sky Racing HQ.
“She has grown up, she is almost 16 hands now, but she is still not over robust and looks well.
“She has gone even times three or four times, but no quicker than that.”
The Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 11 has always been the major 2014 Spring Racing Carnival goal for Go Indy Go, but Macdonald revealed last month that the daughter of Bernardini could also run in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on November 6.
Macdonald said that the feature staying event for three-year-old fillies is still on the agenda for Go Indy Go, but he will wait until he sees how she performs in the Thousand Guineas before he makes any future plans with the rising three-year-old.
“We are definitely thinking Thousand Guineas and that will determine where we go after that,” Macdonald said.
“Whether she is going to be a real stayer or not we are not sure, but the Thousand Guineas is our main goal at the moment.”
True Course (1950), Just Topic (1973) and Guelph (2013) are the only fillies that have won both the Champagne Stakes and the Thousand Guineas, while Samantha Miss in 2008 was the last filly to complete the Champagne Stakes/Crown Oaks double.
Chad Schofield steered Go Indy Go to victory in the Champagne Stakes and he is favored to retain the ride, but Clare Lindop, who rode Go Indy Go on debut in the Listed Cinderella Stakes (1050m) on March 10 is also a chance to be given the ride.
Go Indy Go is currently on the second line of the 2014 Thousand Guineas betting market at Ladbrokes Australia at a quote of $6.50 and she is available at 2014 Crown Oaks odds of $5.
