Gallatin Ready To Return To Winning Form In Australia Day Cup

Godolphin Racing Manager Jason Walsh believes that Gallatin is ready to return to winning form in the 2015 Australia Day Cup at Royal Randwick tomorrow.

Gallatin did not perform at his best during his 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign and he failed to fire in the Summer Cup (2000m) at Royal Randwick on Boxing Day, but he returned to a semblance of his best form in the Listed Gosford Cup (2100m) on January 9.

Walsh told Racing Ahead that trainer John O’Shea is delighted with the condition of Gallatin and he believes that the potentially wet track at Royal Randwick tomorrow will give the four-year-old the best possible chance to take out the Australia Day Cup and record his first race win since the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens in April.

“He has got to get back in the winners circle,” Walsh said.

“He has found a few excuses and he did run quiet well the other day and his best is quite good.

“He is at his most effective with a bit more cut out of the ground and we may have even hoped for a bit more rain than we have had in Sydney, but he is in good form, John is very pleased with him and he thinks that he has him as well as he can have him.

“It is time for him to get back on the board.”

Another Godolphin galloper that is set to contest a Listed event at Royal Randwick tomorrow is promising sprinter Haussman, who has been included in the 2015 Carrington Stakes field.

Haussmann returned to winning form when he defeated Champagne Cath in the Schweppes Handicap (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens on December 20 before he beat home just a single runner when he had no luck in running in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford on January 9.

The Commands gelding is yet to record a race win in his 11 race starts over 1400 metres and Walsh admits that the trip is a question mark, but he said that the stable is happy with the form of Haussmann and confident that he can be competitive in the Carrington Stakes.

“He is in good form,” Walsh said.

“He didn’t get tested and didn’t get a look at them at Gosford, but he has come on very well from that run and John thinks that he has improved again.

“It is a competitive little race there tomorrow and he is a horse that always gave the impression that he was looking for seven, but he doesn’t have a great record at the trip.

“I can’t fault the horse and he should be more than competitive again.”

Gallatin is available at 2015 Australia Day Cup odds of $9.50, while Haussman is available at a quote of $17 to take out the Carrington Stakes.
