Quarterbar was on track to creating an incredible story in the 2011 Queensland Derby but he has been forced to withdraw from the field due to injury.
The Michael Moroney trained runner was pulled out of the race after significant swelling was discovered in his off fore leg.
Stewards were made aware of the situation this morning and Quarterbar has been removed from betting markets.
It’s a huge disappointment for connections after he had done so well just to get in the field.
Quarterbar was a 100 to 1 chance just a couple of weeks ago but after comprehensively winning a mid-week event at Doomben he earned just enough prize money to sneak into the field.
With him withdrawing it has opened the door for the first emergency From London.
From London is a massive outsider to win the race although he did win a Class 1 event on the Gold Coast at his last start.
He’s drawn an outside gate though and after struggling against this competition before it would be a massive upset, trainer John Thompson has confirmed he will run.
It’s also given some confidence to John Sadler who is desperate for his horse The Chevron to get into the field.
He’s the second emergency and now needs just one overnight scratching to gain a spot in the race.
The Chevron has been well supported and is actually third in betting with punters rating him a real chance should he start.
He ran seventh last start in the Grand Prix Stakes but didn’t have the best of trips, it’s only Shootoff and Turnitup higher in the betting market.
He also ahs gate four and the ride of Stephen Arnold so he’s definitely one to watch should there be another scratching.
If The Chevron doesn’t run he’ll line up in the Brisbane Cup where he’s around a $10 quote.
