Fiorente’s The BMW Odds Continue To Shorten

The 2014 The BMW odds of Fiorente have shortened significantly in the past 24 hours and the betting support for the imported stayer is expected to continue after Lloyd Williams advised Racing New South Wales Stewards that Green Moon and Mourayan would be withdrawn from the Group 1 event that will be run at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Green Moon and Mourayan were both rated genuine winning chances in the The BMW, after performing strongly in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) and Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m), but Williams has pulled them out of the race due to a potential wet track at Rosehill Gardens this weekend.

The withdrawal of the talented duo is expected to see The BMW Stakes odds of Fiorente shorten once again; with his price dropping yesterday afternoon following the announcement that It’s A Dundeel had shown signs of lameness earlier in the week.

Fiorente is available at short odds despite producing his worst performance since arriving in Australia when seventh behind Silent Achiever in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) in his last race start just under a fortnight ago.

The Monsun entire was caught wide in the early stages of the race and jockey Damien Oliver was forced to push forward; with the six-year-old unable to shown his usual acceleration in the final stages of the race.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse said that Fiorente was not favored by the tempo of the Ranvet Stakes and told Sky Racing HQ this morning that she is confident that Melbourne Cup winner can return to his best form when he steps up in trip in The BMW Stakes this weekend.

“I just think that the pace was different and it will be a totally different run race over the 2400 metres,” Waterhouse said.

“I think both jockeys will be concentrating on their own mounts and not the opposition.

“I think that it is a great race for Fiorente.

“He has had a perfect preparation going into this race and this is where I was hoping he would be all along.”

Fiorente is currently available at 2014 The BMW odds of $2.80 and is a clear favourite from Ranvet Stakes winner Silent Achiever ($4.60) and five-time Group 1 winner It’s A Dundeel ($4.80).

Waterhouse is chasing her third win in The BMW after previously winning the race with Stony Bay in 1995 and Tuesday Joy in 2008.
