When three-year-old filly Peron makes her Group 1 debut in the $500,000 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday, she will do so as one of the least experienced runners in the field.

But that shouldn’t matter.

Experience has counted for little recently in the Tatt’s Tiara, with three-year-old fillies claiming the top prize in the last three editions of the race.

Melito (2010), Yosei (2011) and Pear Tart (2012) all flew the flag for the younger brigade and Peron appears primed to follow in their footsteps.

The speedy chestnut has stepped out just seven times on raceday, passing the winning post first on six of those occasions.

Trainer John Thompson has had the Tatt’s Tiara in mind for the daughter of Husson all preparation and she’s earned her shot with some dominant displays of racing.

Three times she has taken on the older horses this winter and three times she has won. She confirmed her place in the race on Saturday when shining in her first black-type test in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich.

The classy youngster was a step above her rivals, producing a sharp turn of foot to quickly bound to the lead, accelerating down the short Ipswich straight for a two-length win.

While Peron appears to be the best chance of repeating the success for the three-year-old fillies, she is set to be joined in the race by fellow youngsters Diamond Earth and Doubtfilly.

Last year’s Golden Slipper fourth Doubtfilly finished off well for third in the Gai Waterhouse Classic while the Anthony Cummings-trained Diamond Earth was last seen finsihing seventh in the Lightning Handicap.
