The front running Fabrizio heads up a bumper list of nominations for the 2017 Listed $200,000 Scone Cup (1600m) at the standalone metropolitan class meeting at Scone on Friday.
Fabrizo will be chasing two Cup trophies in succession after leading all of the way to win the Group 3 $200,000 Livamol Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m) at Hawkesbury on April 29.
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Fabrizo beat Moher and the Gary Portelli trained Testashadow and all three Hawkesbury Gold Cup placegetters are among the twenty-four Scone Cup nominations.
Waterhouse and Bott and also nominated restricted class galloper Supply And Demand who is coming off a last start third in a 1400m BenchMark 78 Handicap at Randwick on April 22.
The Darren Beadman trained Moher will be fitter for two runs from a spell and could be joined in the Scone Cup by stablemate Duca Valentinois who finished tenth to Fabrizio in the Hawkesbury Gold Cup after running second in a 1400m BenchMark 100 Handicap at Randwick on April 15.
Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller has only one nomination, six year old Amovatio who will be first up in the Scone Cup, not having been to the races since running eighth to Red Excitement in Group 3 $150,000 Summer Cup (2000m) at Randwick on December 26.
The Peter and Paul Snowden training partnership only have one entry for the Scone Cup in Pajaro who is also coming out of the Hawkesbury Gold Cup after finishing eight, three and a half lengths behind the winner Fabrizio.
The twenty-four Scone Cup entries go towards making up a total of two hundred and seventeen nominations for the entire day which also features the running of the $100,000 Inglis 2yo Challenge (1100m).
Scone Race Club CEO Heath Courtney said the club was very pleased with the numbers for the two day Scone Cup carnival that has also attracted two hundred and eight nominations for Saturday’s meeting that sees the running of the $400,000 Inglis 3yo Guineas (1400m) and the Group 3 $200,000 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) for the fillies and mares.
“The nominations for this year’s carnival are exceptional,” Scone Race Club CEO Heath Courtney told Racing New South Wales News.
“We are very happy with the quality of interest, in particular for the Scone Cup.”
