Race favourite Driefontein has emerged on top after barrier draws were revealed for the Magic Million 2YO Classic this morning.

Driefontein has drawn barrier three for the $2 million race, ensuring she will face no great obstacles as she attempts to win this Saturday.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse believes there is no horse in this weekend’s Magic Million 2YO Classic field that can come close to her two-year-old filly.

“She will win this Magic Millions on Saturday,” Waterhouse said confidently.

“I was talking to Gillian Heinrich and she thinks she’s the best thing she’s seen since her filly (Military Rose) won the race.”

Driefontein has won both her two race starts, with her most recent being in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes at Doomben last month.

A win in Saturday’s race would give her sire, Fastnet Rock, even further attention as Australia’s top rising sire.

Fastnet Rock is best known for siring untouchable three-year-old Atlantic Jewel and her trainer Mark Kavanagh feels he will soon take over the title of number one sire from Redoute’s Choice.

“You will find that he will take over from Redoute’s Choice as the hottest sire around,” Kavanagh said.

“He has certainly proven himself and there wouldn’t be any trainer that would knock one back if offered to train.

“His stock are showing a lot of versatility and with Atlantic Jewel winning the 2000m Wakeful and Mosheen winning the 2500m Oaks, it … underlined him as the real deal.”

While Waterhouse insists Driefontein and her impressive sire have the Magic Millions in the bag, Sizzling’s camp are not convinced.

Sizzling has also drawn well for the race and will jump from barrier six this Saturday.

The Snitzel colt has won one of his three race starts, with his most recent result being a second to Driefontein in the BJ McLachlan Stakes.

Well backed Amorino has also drawn well in barrier eight, while Gillian Heinrich’s Pure Whisper has drawn the outside barrier of 21.
