David Payne is yet another trainer boasting chances in both the three year old races at Warwick Farm tomorrow and few appear to be in a better position at claiming the double.
Florentina will be flying his flag in the fillies event, the Group 2 Furious Stakes over 1400m.
It’s a fantastic field of horses but she’s in a great position to get the job done.
Florentina has had the two runs already this preparation and both performances have been top notch.
She started off with a win on a slow track at Rosehill before running second on a heavy track at Warwick Farm in the Silver Shadow Stakes.
She was only a head off the winner Pane In The Glass that day and she appears the one to beat again tomorrow.
Florentina is reaping the rewards of an operation at the end of last season which discovered she had undiagnosed breathing issues.
“She had that little hiccup and thank god we found it,” Payne said.
“She had a flap, we couldn’t find it on the scope, when she was galloping there was a little flap that was blocking her air pipe off.”
While Florentina has come back and proven her worth as a three year old, that day comes tomorrow in the Ming Dynasty Handicap for Payne’s other runner Cocky Raider.
After a consistent juvenile career just off the top graders last season the pressure is really on the gelding to step up to that next level.
He won on debut and then collected three seconds from five runs s a two year old so there ability is there so long as he’s continued to improve over the spell.
“He’s well, he’s quite a laid back horse, he’s not a big horse,” Payne said.
“We’re 100 percent for 1400m he’ll be fine.”
Cocky Raider is set for a spring campaign likely to include the Gloaming Stakes as well as the Spring Champion Stakes.
