Trainer Mick Price has revealed that Dany The Fox will likely return to Group level for the 2015 Carlyon Cup after running in the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Dany The Fox was given a lengthy stint in the spelling paddock after he finished seventh behind Akavoroun and The Cleaner in the Listed Winter Championship Final (1600m) at Flemington on July 12 and according to Price has done very well in his time away from racing.

Price admits that the majority of Dany The Fox’s rivals will have a clear fitness edge on him in the Chester Manifold, but he told Racing Ahead that he has been happy with the trackwork of the Danroad gelding and believes that he is worthy of a return to Group racing in the Group 3 Carlyon Cup (1600m) at Caulfield on February 14 if he finishes in the top four at Flemington tomorrow.

“He will have a good preparation and he is in really good order,” Price said.

“There are a lot of horses that are a lot fitter than him here, but he goes well for Bossy.

“He will do no work from the gate and canter along.

“He always has a bit of weight with his form and he only has to hang on and run in the first four to tick off a good run for us.

“He is off and running and will probably go to the Carlyon Cup after this and run in some nice miles races and 1800s and see how we go.

“He is going really well and he has had a good prep, but he is probably just a little bit tubby that is all.”

Dany The Fox made his racing debut under the care of Mick Kent in June of 2011 and he was given a maiden opportunity at Group level in the 2012 edition of the Group 2 Autumn Classic (1800m).

He was transferred to the Price stable in August of 2012 and worked his way through the grades before he scored his maiden win at Listed level in the Kilmore Cup (1600m) before he finished eighth behind Puissance De Lune in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m).

Dany The Fox made his Group 1 debut in the 2013 edition of the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) and he produced his best performance at the highest level of racing when he finished fifth in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m).

The six-year-old returned to winning form when he took out the Noble Park Plate (1400m) at Sandown in March last year and performed consistently without winning in his five subsequent race starts.
