Dabernig Happy With 2015 Caulfield Guineas Duo

The Lindsay Park team has both Sovereign Nation and More Than Most in the 2015 Caulfield Guineas field and co-trainer Tom Dabernig is happy with both horses ahead of the Group 1 event at Caulfield on Saturday.

Sovereign Nation made his racing debut with a win at Geelong on August 28 and he had very little luck in running in the Listed Pin And Win Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on September 12, but he earnt himself as a place in the 2015 Caulfield Guineas field when he scored an impressive win in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on October 2.

Dabernig said that Sovereign Nation had come out of his Stutt Stakes run in good condition and he told Racing Ahead that the Encosta De Lago gelding is sure to hit the line strongly in the final stages of the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

“He is a big strong healthy horse and we were quite impressed with that win,” Hayes said.

“He seems to have come through it really well.

“He has to back-up, but he drew in when he won at the Valley and from barrier one he should get a reasonable run.

“We know that he runs out a strong mile, so that is not a concern.

“He is a really lovely and balance horse, so I am really happy to have him in the race.”

More Than Most has only recorded one win from his seven race starts and he snuck into the Caulfield Guineas ahead of first emergency Mr Individual.

The More Than Ready colt has impressed the Lindsay Park team with everything that he has done in trackwork and he finished a credible third behind Badawiya and Tivaci in the Australian Seed And Turf Handicap (1400m) at Pakenham on September 23, but Dabernig admits that he would have to go to another level to win the Caulfield Guineas this weekend.

“More Than Most’s form has been good and he is a very good worker,” Dabernig said.

“He definitely has the talent, but he would need to pull out a career best to be winning.”

David Hayes has the chance to record his first win in the Caulfield Guineas since St Covet, who followed a similar form pattern to Sovereign Nation, took out the 1994 edition of the race.

Sovereign Nation is currently available at 2015 Caulfield Guineas odds of $17 with Ladbrokes, while More Than Most is the extreme outsider of the field at a quote of $151.
