Big race jockey Craig Williams will miss riding in the Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on the first day of ‘The Championships’ after being suspended for careless riding at Ladbrokes Park Sandown on Wednesday.
Williams was suspended for eleven meetings for causing interference at the 200m in the second race of the day and is due to commence his time out at midnight on Monday March 28 and will be eligible to ride again after midnight on April 6, clearing him for day two of ‘The Championships’ on April 9.
At first Williams thought he would be able to clear his rides for this weekend and commence his suspension early to enable him to ride Kiwi galloper Volkstok’n’barrrell in the Doncaster Mile, but decided against that and will honour his weekend commitments.
“I was suspended today (Wednesday) for 11 mtgs. I will fulfil my rides tom, Sat & Mon. Back on April 7. Unfortunately I miss Day 1 of the Championships.,” Williams tweeted on Wednesday night.
Williams has seven rides at Moonee Valley tonight including Gregers ($31) for David Hayes and Tom Dabernig in the Group 1 $500,000 Mitchelton Wines William Reid Stakes (1200m).
The internationally renowned jockey will also team up with Hayes and Dabernig at Rosehill on Saturday on Rising Romance ($10) in the Group 1 $1.5m The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill.
