Global breeding operation Coolmore has shelled out $1.55 million for star filly Nechita which is likely to mean the end of her racing career.
The three-year-old went under the hammer as part of the reduction of Patinack Farm at the Magic Millions national broodmare sale at the Gold Coast today.
It is expected Coolmore will send the daughter of Fastnet Rock straight to stud, ending her brief racing career at three wins from four starts.
Patinack trainer John Thompson has previously described Nechita as the fastest horse he has trained and she showed her ability in the spring when winning the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.
Recently retired multiple Group 1 winner Pierro is one of the stallions in line to serve the latest addition to Coolmore’s broodmare ranks.
Nechita wasn’t the only horse to fetch a big price at today’s sales, with Group 1 runner-up Longport going for $800,000 and Saturday’s Glenlogan Park Stakes winner Sookie $700,000.
Group 1 winner Pear Tart went for $675,000 while other notable purchases included Pane In The Glass ($500,000), Kneeling ($380,000) and Potions ($300,000).
