Conditions Ideal for Flying Jess in Magic Millions 3YO Guineas

Trainer John Moloney is quietly confident that Flying Jess is in the right form to cause a major upset in Saturday’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) on the Gold Coast.

Flying Jess returned from a freshen-up for seventh in the New Year’s Eve BM72 (1250m) at Canterbury on December 31st, but has stripped fitter for the run and was clearly looking for a step up in distance.

Moloney told Racing Victoria that the he cannot fault the condition of his runner, and is confident that her draw and the conditions of the 2017 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas will play directly into her strengths.

“Obviously the 1400 metres is going to suit her better than the 1200 (metres) she ran over at Canterbury,” Moloney said.

“Her good runs have been at the 1400m where she ran fourth in the Twilight Glow and won the Sires’ Produce in Adelaide, so there’s a couple of ticks there.

“She’s got a good gate and she’s had a good prep and I’m pretty happy with her. She had a gallop here yesterday on the Gold Coast track here and she finished off the gallop really well.

“Gai’s horse (Global Glamour) is drawn wide and we’ve got Winning Rupert just outside us so he might just give us a little bit of help in the run early.

“We won’t be going as fast as him, but he just might help us across and get a reasonable position and then we can work our way home from there.

“It’s a fantastic race to put her into and to think she’s here in good order, well, you’ve just got to hope haven’t you?”

Flying Jess has posted a commendable race record of one win and two minors through her eleven career starts so far, and has been set for black type targets since debuting in the 2015 edition of the Listed Debutant Stakes (1000m).

Requiring a couple of runs to find form upon resuming in spring last year, the Hinchinbrook filly finished sixth in the MyPunter Plate (1400m), but failed to fire when thirteenth in the Listed Lexus Hybrid Plate (1400m) on Melbourne Cup Day.

Having responded well for fourth in the Listed Twilight Glow Stakes (1400m) in her only other start prior to a freshen-up, Flying Jess is currently available at Magic Millions 3YO Guineas odds of $91 with Ladbrokes Australia.
