Class and distance suits My True Love in Sunshine Coast Guineas

A drop in class and a step up in distance are two things that are in My True Love’s favour as she heads into the Group 3 $125,000 XXXX Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

My True Love is coming off a last start second to stablemate Prompt Response in the Group 2 $200,000 Bundaberg Rum Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on June 10 and co-trainer Gai Waterhouse is looking forward to the filly stepping up  to the 1600m.

“My True Love ran well behind Prompt Response in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes over 1350m earlier this month and I was disappointed that she didn’t get a run in the Group 1 Tiara Stakes last weekend because she would have gone very close,” Waterhouse said on her blog.

“This race appears to be a weaker race on paper and the step up in distance to 1600m will be in her favour.”

“I am looking forward to seeing her run, and dropping down in grade she has a great chance of scooping this valuable Group 3 race.”

My True Love failed to gain a start in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1350m) at Doomben last Saturday after being relegated to the emergency list but the Dane Ripper Stakes form shone through with Prompt Response running home strongly to finish second to the Team Snowden trained Tycoon Tara.

Adam Hyeronimus takes over from Damian Lane on My True Love who will have to use her good gate speed to overcome a wide barrier in the capacity eighteen horse field.

My True Love came up with barrier twenty in the original draw of eighteen plus four emergencies but the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly looks likely to jump from gate sixteen when the field is finalised at scratching time on Saturday morning.

Early betting for the Sunshine Coast Guineas at Ladbrokes.com.au has My True Love as the $4.60 second favourite behind the $3.10 top pick Acatour from the Randwick stables of Peter and Paul Snowden while on the third line of betting at $6 is the Liam Birchely trained Crack Me Up.
