Chiavari to help Damien Oliver’s premiership bid

Consistent filly Chiavari has a great chance to help Damien Oliver’s premiership bid when she lines up in the $80,000 Aaron Barnett Handicap (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

With two metropolitan meetings left on the 2014 – 2015 racing calendar, Caulfield on Saturday and Ballarat on Sunday, the Nick Harnett trained Chiavari gives Oliver a great chance to score an early win in the day to boost his hopes of winning another Melbourne jockey’s premierships.

Oliver on fifty-eight wins, heads to Caulfield with a one win lead over rival Craig Williams and has a strong book of rides on the nine race program.

Chiavari has recorded a win and two placings from her last three starts and Harnett expects her to produce another solid performance on Saturday following her last start third to Our Harmony against the three year olds fillies over 1100m at Caulfield on July 4.

“He has come through it well,” Harnett told RSN.

“It takes her a week to get over her runs, she has a go so it takes her a good week to get over her run.”

“Looks a nice race for her.”

Harnett will be instructing Oliver to settle Chiavari back off the pace from barrier three, adding that the Teofilo filly can get easily fired up in her races.

“She just fires up a bit. She had a few starts at Flemington and she just pulled too hard. Settling back a bit will just suit her,” Harnett said.

Harnett has reported that Chiavari has continued to work well since her last run although he doesn’t do a lot with her in between races.

“She’s great. She just works on her own, good as gold, everything is good with her,” Harnett said.

The Cranbourne trainer said that Chiavari will eventually get up to 1600m but is happy to wait until she learns to settle in her races before stepping her up in distance.

“But she has got this little problem of wanting to over race otherwise she would get a mile quite easy,” Harnett said.

“Once she settles down and gets that out of the system she will be right.””

Chiavari shares the second line of betting for the Aaron Barnett Handicap at $5 with Mossbeat behind topweight Japhils who heads the market order at Ladbrokes.com.au at $4.80.
