A smart front running ride from Tim Clark saw Chetwood led all of the way to take out the Group 3 $150,000 Australian Bloodstock Cameron Handicap (1350m) on the Beaumont track at Newcastle today.

Clark let Chetwood stride to the front from the outside barrier in the eight horse field and once he hit the front slowed the tempo in the middle stages before out sprinting his rivals in the straight.

The John O’Shea trained Chetwood was sent out the $2.80 favourite following his good city form and made it a hat trick of wins after scoring at Canterbury on August 10 followed by a win in a 1350m BenchMark 78 Handicap with 60.5kg at Rosehill on August 27.

A huge drop in weight to 54kg was a big advantage for Chetwood who was able to hold off the highly weighted Le Romain ($3.70) and Famous Seamus ($31).

Top weight Le Romain was lumped with 59kg while Fampous Seamus was handicapped with 57kg.

O’Shea’s assistant trainer Darren Beadman said that Chetwood just loves to run and proved it today with a great front running performance.

“He is poetry in motion this horse. He thrives on training at home and thrives on racing and he just loves getting out there and galloping,” Beadman said.

“Drawing the outside gate allowed him to get into a lovely rhythm and a nice motion and it was a lovely ride by Tim and a great team effort by everybody at Godolphin.”
