Trainer Rick Hore-Lacy is back on the Group 1 trail with Chase The Rainbow after the five year old was back in the winner’s stall in the Group 3 $150,000 Herald Sun Carlyon Cup (1600m) at Caulfield today.

Chase The Rainbow ($4.60) with Craig Williams on board was able to hold out Damien Oliver on Star Rolling ($5.50) by a head after the pair had a tight battle all the way down the straight.

Race favourite Pakal ($2.05) was pulled out wide in the straight by Glen Boss but struggled to pick up the first two placegetters to wind up in third spot.

Now that Chase the Rainbow is back in winning form, Hore-Lacy will set his sights higher during the Autumn Carnival with a possible start in the Group 1 $1m Darley Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 8.

The ghostly grey is also nominated in the Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 12.

“What a gutsy horse. The other horse had him beaten all the way up the straight, he still won,” Hore-Lacy said.

“He’s in the Australian Cup and the Doncaster, he’s an high class horses and who knows .”

“It’s amazing racing, it can turn around in a twinkle of an eye.”

Chase The Rainbow was rated one of the top- three year olds of his year and after winning the Group 2 $200,000 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley in the Spring of 2011 ran seventh in the Group 1 $1m Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield at his next start.

The Dash For Cash stallion then spent almost a year on the sidelines because of injury before winning over 1400m at Caulfield in September 2012 before another lengthy spell.

Chase The Rainbow showed that he was getting back to his best with a last start third to Finishing Card in the Listed $120,000 Equiano Speed Yearlings John Dillon Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on January 25.
