Toowoomba trainer Norm Hilton has high hopes for four-year-old gelding Carry Me Bluey going into the Summer Series in Brisbane.

Carry Me Bluey finished fourth last start in the Simon George & Sons Plate at Doomben, despite missing the kick and beginning his run too early.

“It was a huge run,” Hilton said.

“He was in the barriers for a little while. He just stood flat footed for a second.

“I think he’s better coming from the back of the field.”

Hilton will now target a 1,400-1,600 metre race in Brisbane before heading to the Listed Bernborough Handicap in December, which is the final leg of the Summer Series.

“He’s seemed to pull up really well,” the trainer said.

“I think 1400-1,600 metres at this stage seems to be his go.

“Originally we were going to do the (entire) Summer Series but the 1,200 (metre races) I don’t think are that good to him.

“We’ll probably go to the Bernborough Mile, the last leg of the summer series.”

Carry Me Bluey has won five of his 16 career starts and has earned more than $100,000 in prize money.
