Top fancies Spurtonic and That’s A Good Idea have drawn wide gates in the Listed $100,000 Carrington Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
The Gai Waterhouse trained Spurtonic has come up with barrier eleven in the twelve horse field while That’s A Good Idea, trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, will jump one from his inside at gate ten.
Jockey Blake Shinn finds himself back aboard Spurtonic after last start winning jockey Hugh Bowman elected to stick with That’s A Good Idea after partnering him at his two runs back from a spell this time in.
Bowman combined with Spurtonic to score the five year old’s first win since taking out Group 3 $150,000 David Jones Cup (2000m) at Caulfield in October 2013 with a come from behind victory in the $328,000 Magic Millions Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast on January 10.

“The improvement That’s A Good Idea showed from his run in the Canterbury Classic to his effort at Gosford in the Takeover Target, which was the day before Spurtonic, was huge and I just feel he’s ready to peak third-up,” Bowman told The Courier-Mail.
“He’s a horse that’s capable of running a fast time and I reckon he’s ready to do that this weekend.”
The well performed Ninth Legion is resuming from a spell and has drawn the rails with James McDonald to ride.
The Team Hawkes trained Ninth Legion race well in top company during the Sydney Spring Carnival last year and was sent for a spell after running a creditable fourth to He’s Your Man in the Group 1 $500,000 The Star Epsom (1600m) at Randwick on October 4.
