Glen Boss will return to Sydney on the weekend to ride, with the Spring spotlight heading to Warwick Farm for Warwick Stakes Race day.
Boss stole the limelight at Caulfield on Saturday, steering Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune to a first up win in the Group 2 $220,000 Back To Caulfield P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) in stunning style.
The premiership winning jockey has picked up the mount on Group 1 winning mare Streama in the Group 2 $175,000 Warwick Stakes (1400m) and will be having his first race ride on Rebel Dane in the Group 3 $125,000 Show County Quality (1200m).
Boss has been aboard Streama on two occasions for a fourth to Sacred Falls in the Group 1 $2m BMW Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 20 and third to Linton in the Group 1 $1.36m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 8.
Top Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman then took over from Boss when Streama ran a gallant second to Red Tracer in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 22 before heading for a spell.
Rebel Dane created a huge impression with a last to first win in the Group 2 $175,000 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on February 16 and Boss got a feel for the four year old in winning a 795m barrier trial at Warwick Farm on July 26.
Warwick Farm trainer Gary Portelli took Rebel Dane to Rosehill last Saturday to give him a gallop in between races with Bowman in the saddle.
Bowman reported back to Portelli that the work was very good and that he would be available to ride the four year old if Boss was unable to take the mount.
“Hugh Bowman got off him and said he feels like a serious horse and he’d be available if Bossy can’t ride for whatever reason so that is always a good sign,” Porttelli told Racing Network.
Rebel Dane is one of twenty-two nominations for the Show County Quality which is scattered with several Group 1 winners.
Trainer Guy Walter has entered his Autumn star Appearance while other Group 1 winners include the Chris Waller trained Metal Bender and Sacred Falls, Norzita from the Bart and James Cummings stable and the Kelso Wood trained Sizzling from Queensland.
