Three times Melbourne Cup winning jockey Glen Boss will be back aboard Who Shot Thebarman in the Group 1 $1.5m The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Boss will be having his first ride on the Chris Waller trained Who Shot Thebarman since the pair ran third behind Protectionist and Red Cadeaux in last year’s Group 1 $6m Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington in the Spring.
Boss and Who Shot Thebarman also combined for two wins at Flemington during the 2014 Melbourne Spring Carnival in the lead up to the Melbourne Cup with victories in the $100,000 Sofitel’s Girls’ Day Out 2000 (2000m) and in the Group 3 $150,000 The Bart Cummings (2520m) .
The three Melbourne Cup placegetteres will be facing each other again in the weight for age BMW and Boss is happy to be back aboard this Saturday and in the Group 1 $1.6m Schweppes Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick on April 11, the second day of ‘The Championships’.
“You’d think he’d run well in both of those races, especially the Sydney Cup. And I’d imagine he has improved,” Boss told The Herald Sun.
Who Shot Thebarman has been ridden by Christian Reith at his two Autumn Carnival runs and resumed for a fifth to Contributer in the Group 1 $500,000 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm on February 28 followed by a fourth to Hartnell in the Group 3 $150,000 Sky High Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on March 14.
Waller was happy with the stayers last start and expects him to keep on improving as he steps up in distance in The BMW and the Sydney Cup.
“Who Shot Thebarman is stepping up to a distance that suits him now and I’m very pleased with him,” Waller told AAP.
“His last run was very good.”
Waller has nominated seven for The BMW, but has indicated that the stable might only have three runners.
As well as Who Shot Thebarman, Opinion will go around on the weekend and He’s Your Man has a good chance of backing up after running sixth to Contributer in the Group 1 $500,000 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill last Saturday.
“He (Who Shot Thebarman) and Opinion are both definite runners and I will think about backing up He’s Your Man from the Ranvet,” Waller said.
“He’s trotted up sound today. I was hoping the BMW might be easier. His plan is the Queen Elizabeth Stakes and we may just stick to that.”
Waller’s other BMW entries Foreteller, Beaten Up, Hawkspur and Junoob are also nominated for the Group 3 $150,000 Daily Telegraph Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m).
The well performed Japanese stayer To The World heads the early market order for The BMW and is marked at $3.20 with Ladbrokes.com.au just ahead of the John O’Shea trained Hartnell at $4 and the 2014 Melbourne Cup quinella of Protectionist at $7 and Red Cadeaux at $9.
The Kris Lees trained Lucia Valentina is next in the betting at $10 with Who Shot Thebarman listed as an $11 chance.
