Blueberry Hill specked in the betting for Tattersall’s Club Tiara

Last week’s Gai Waterhouse Classic winner Blueberry Hill has been specked at long odds in the betting for Saturday’s Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Club Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

The Liam Birchley trained Blueberry Hill has firmed in from $31 when the final field was released on Wednesday to be now quoted as a $21 chance.

The Ciaron Maher trained Azkadellia remains at the top of the market order at $2.40 ahead of Danish Twist at $5.50 with the Robert Sangster Stakes winner Precious Gem and Dane Ripper Stakes victor Cradle Me sharing the next line of betting at $8.

Birchley is pleased with the way Blueberry Hill has come through her run in the Listed $100,000 Sky Racing Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) at Ipswich last Saturday and expects the Myboycharlie filly to figure in the prizemoney again.

“She couldn’t have come through the race any better and I would like to think she can race well again here too,” Birchley told The Courier-Mail.

Blueberry Hill had been struggling to regain her brilliant two year old form that saw her win three races in her juvenile year, including a win in the 2015 Group 2 $175,000 Bollinger Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben, so Birchely tried her in the blinkers two starts back.

She over raced with the blinkers on for the first time and after leading faded to finish eighth to Ghisoni in the Group 3 $150,000 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 28.

Birchley then immediately removed the blinkers and Blueberry Hill responded with a last to first win in the Gai Waterhouse Classic.

“I knew she was going well and I thought she was ready to do something when I put the blinkers on her in that race (Glenlogan Park Stakes), but she just took off with them,” Birchley said.

“So I took them off last week and to be fair, the track really favoured her, but you still have to win and that’s what she did.”

Blueberry Hill is stepping up to Group 1 company this week from Listed class and has drawn midfield at barrier eight in the sixteen horse field with Jim Byrne taking over from apprentice James Orman.
