Last Saturday’s impressive Flemington winner Regazzo Del Corsa is on target to run in the Group 1 $1m Sportingbet Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 28.

The Danny O‘Brien trained Ragazzo Del Corsa sat just off the leaders in the early part of the 1000m straight scamper with jockey James Winks putting the race beyond doubt at the clock tower when he let the Stratum colt skip clear and go on the record a two lengths victory.
Ragazzo Del Corsa was only having his second race start and showed the benefit of having race experience following his first up third to Secret Agenda over 1000m at Moonee Valley on December 12.
“Moonee Valley was probably the wrong place to start him, but we had no other option at the time,” O’Brien said
“He trialled super down the straight eight days ago. He’s a gorgeous, big, strong colt who is a precocious two-year-old.”
Winning part owner Brian Blood confirmed after the Flemington win that Ragazzo Del Corsa would definitely being heading towards the Blue Diamond Stakes at the end of February.
“We have been hoping that he will make a Diamond colt and he’s heading in the right direction,” Blood said after the win.
“This was a vastly improved effort on his Moonee Valley run.”
O’Brien will send Ragazzo Del Corsa back to his Barwon Beach complex for a short freshen up before preparing him for next race start in the Group 3 $150,000 Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) (1100m) at Caulfield on February 14.
Winning jockey James Winks took over from Stephen Baster at Flemington and was most impressed with the colt’s winning performance.
“He’s a very progressive type, there’s a lot to like about him,” Winks said.
The Robert Smerdon trained filly Fontiton heads the Blue Diamond Stakes market order at $4.60 following her six lengths debut win in the $250,000 Inglis Banner (1000m) at Moonee Valley on October 25.
Secret Agenda from the Mick Price stable is also well up in the betting at $5.50 just ahead of Rosehill winner Ottoman at $6 while Ragazzo Del Corsa is at the healthy odds of $21.
