As Black Caviar’s 16th start nears closer, her owners have revealed that they cannot escape the nerves that plague them on the day of each and every race start.
Co-owner Neil Werrett admitted that despite a predicted effortless victory in today’s Patinack Farm Classic at Flemington, the connections are as concerned as ever.
“I just got off the phone to one of the other owners, Colin (Maddern), and already we are getting excited and worried,” Werrett said.
“So many people come to see her and you wonder how long it can last.”
Werrett said that Black Caviar’s ever composed trainer, Peter Moody, is also feeling the pressure that being associated with the super mare brings.
“I don’t know if you noticed Peter before the Caulfield race, but I don’t ever think I’ve seen him so nervous,” Werrett said.
“He was a nervous wreck. He always has a go at me about being nervous and is always telling me not to worry, it will be all right, but he was very nervous that day.
“I think it was because she had five months off, it was a long break, and during that break there was so much publicity about her. The build-up to that race was amazing.”
Black Caviar has since gone on to win both her spring starts and is expected to continue her perfect record at Flemington today.
