West Australian sprinter Barakey will be transferred to the all-conquering Chris Waller stable when he returns to Melbourne for the Autumn Carnival.

Barakey will join another West Australian trainedd Group 1 winner Mr Moet who is also heading to the Waller’s barn for his Autumn Carnival preparation.

Perth trainer Jim Taylor will head to Melbourne for the second time with Barakey and prepare him for the Group 1 $500,000 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on February 15 before handing him over to Sydney’s premiership trainer.

“It was my decision. The owners left it up to me,” Taylor told Racing Victoria’s Racing News.

Waller said that he was very excited to be taking over the training of the Group 1 winning sprinter.

“I was asked by the horse’s trainer Jim Taylor to take him which is a bit of an honour really,” Waller told AAP.

“His record speaks for itself … he’s an exciting horse.”

Taylor put the finishing touches on Barakey who won his first ten starts before the top Perth trainer guided the Key Business gelding to the winner’s stall in the last year’s Group 1 $500,000 Crown Perth-Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot twelve months ago.

But Barakey’s winning streak came to an end with a horrific Melbourne Autumn Carnival campaign which saw the speedster limp home to Perth for knee surgery following his eleventh of thirteen behind Shamexpress in the Group 1 $1m Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 9.

Two weeks earlier Barakey was sent to the barriers as the favourite for the Group 1 $400,000 Sportingbet Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield but had to be withdrawn when he played up in the starting stalls.

Taylor then nursed the six year old back to health and prepared him for a first up win in the Group 3 $125,000 Sea Corp Starlight Prince Of Wales Stakes (1200m) at Ascot in Perth on October 26 before attempting to win back to back Winterbottom Stakes.

Barakey ran below par when he finished an uncharacteristic ninth to Buffering in the Winterbottom Stakes on November 23 after racing on the pace but was later found to be suffering from a virus.

Trainer Adam Durrant will hand over Mr Moet to Waller after the six year old runs in the Group 2 $250,000 LD Total – C.B. Cox Stakes (2100m) at Ascot on December 21.

Mr Moet, who won the 2012 Group 1 $1m Carlton Draught-Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot, will start one of the favourites in the Cox Stakes after finishing two lengths behind Ihtsahymn when fifth in the Group 1 $500,000 TAB Touch – Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot on December 7.

Mr Moet has had two campaigns in the east, this year’s Autumn and Spring Carnivals, and even though he hasn’t picked up a winner’s cheque, he has been placed at Group 1 level at Caulfield when third to All Too Hard in the $400,000 Sportingbet C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 9.
