Talented import Arod is set to begin his 2017 Autumn Carnival campaign in the Group 1 Ladbrokes CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday, February 11th.
Arod began his racing career under the guidance of notable British trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam and announced himself to the Australian racing community during a 2015 Spring Carnival campaign geared towards the Cox Plate; albeit an unsuccessful stint in the country.
Having been transferred to the care of Chris Waller partway through the 2016 Spring Carnival, the Teofilo entire was rated a $15 chance in his only start for the Rosehill-based trainer so far, but produced a smart turn of foot to run second behind Rageese in the Group 3 L’Oreal Paris Stakes (1400m) on November 3rd.
Australia Manager for owning syndicate Qatar Bloodstock, Geoffrey Faber told AAP that Arod trialled unsuccessfully on soft ground late last week, but should come on well from the hit-out ahead of the CF Orr Stakes 2017.
“He trialled on Friday in soft ground and he was no good,” Faber said.
“He hated it and shouldn’t have gone around in it but he’ll be fine when he gets down here.
“He’s settled in well and he’s up to Group One form here in Australia.”
Arod undoubtedly found career-best form to date through the middle stages of 2015; winning the Group 3 Diomed Stakes (1713m) and Group 2 Summer Mile (1600m) before running second to champion miler Solow in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes (1600m) most notably.
Unable to make anything of his two starts in Australia, the entire out of My Personal Space took a few runs to find form upon returning to Europe, but ran a credible third in the Group 2 Celebration Mile (1600m) most notably, prior to be transferred to Waller’s stables.
The 2017 CF Orr Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday February 8th.
