Apprentice jockey Josh Adams will attempt to win his first race for new boss Gerald Ryan when he races at Canterbury today.

The leading Sydney apprentice joined Ryan’s stable last week after finishing up with Hawkesbury trainer Garry Frazer.

Adams will ride Hylands Race Colours Handicap hopeful La Bella Luisa in the race and is hoping it will be the first of many wins to come out of the new partnership.

Ryan is confident that his new jockey has the goods to help his five-year-old mare claim her fourth career win.

“I think she can win and if she does it will be Josh’s first official win as an apprentice for the stable,” Ryan said.

“He has ridden plenty of winners for us but not as our apprentice.”

La Bella Luisa has finished in the first four in her last two barrier trials and Ryan is more than happy with her form.

“On her trials and work she is up to winning this race,” Ryan said.

The new apprentice jockey will be hoping to add to his already impressive record that has seen him lead the Sydney’s apprentices’ premiership with 32 city wins.

“He is a lovely kid and a good horseman,” Ryan said about Adams.

“He has a great work ethic and is a good judge of pace.”
