Anamoe continues to dominate markets to keep the elite level wins coming when the young Godolphin champ lines-up as the odds-on favourite in Saturday’s Group 1 $1 million The Agency George Ryder Stakes (1500m).

An eleven-horse field faces off in this year’s George Ryder Stakes, which is one of five Group 1 races taking place at Rosehill Racecourse for super Slipper Day.

The James Cummings-trained Street Boss four-year-old Anamoe is one of the meeting’s drawcard contenders racing third-up from the outside alley with James McDonald continuing associations on the $11 million earner.

A 13-time winner from 23 starts Anamoe is unbeaten this prep with last year’s Cox Plate hero having won the Group 2 Apollo Stakes – Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes double in the lead-up.

Both of those autumn victories took place at Randwick and Anamoe is sure to be equally as impressive at Rosehill where he boasts a top record (5:2-2-1) including a second in the 2021 Golden Slipper Stakes on this day two years ago.

He also ran on Golden Slipper Day last season winning the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) by over six and a half lengths.

Cummings is confident the team have made the right decision to run Anamoe this year over the 1500m instead of stepping out over 2000m in the Ranvet Stakes, a distance he will get out to fourth-up on April 8 in the Group 1 $5 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

“It took some weighing up that decision and we formed the view that we prefer to prepare Anamoe as more of a miler horse this preparation than a mile-and-a-quarter horse,” Cummings told SENTrack’s Giddy Up with Gareth Hall.

“It would be arguably an easier race maybe, the Ranvet, not that there are any easy races, but it might’ve been the easier option of the two.

“It suited Anamoe far more to go through the George Ryder to keep him that little bit sharper and only have the one running stepping up to 2000m in the Queen Elizabeth.

“He’s got an excellent record when we step him up distance, he’s never run a bad race for me, and so having had three weeks from the Chipping Norton to freshen up for the George Ryder, he’ll be absolutely ready to go in the Queen Elizabeth when the toughest assignment of his entire preparation comes around.

“Geez, we were pleased with the way he went through his paces during the week, he’s absolutely on song, he’s in frightening good form and we can’t be any more enthusiastic about taking him to the races third-up this campaign in the time-honoured George Ryder.”

The latest George Ryder Stakes odds at Ladbrokes have Anamoe at $1.65 and firming.

Cummings is after his first George Ryder Stakes victory and also saddles-up Astern colt Golden Mile from gate eight with Hugh Bowman to ride the reining Caulfield Guineas winning three-year-old.

Golden Mile is also proven at Rosehill and last ran at the track first-up on January 28 when second to Mariamia in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m).

He was solid against the older horses second-up at Randwick when under a length beaten last start in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) a fortnight back.

Golden Mile now represents value in George Ryder Stakes betting at $11.

Pierro (2013) was the last three-year-old George Ryder Stakes winner.

Along with Golden Mile the key three-year-olds out to be the next in 2023 are the Michael Freedman-trained Communist ($21) coming off a Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) win over the mile on March 4, and Chris Waller’s Pierro colt Osipenko who was good winning the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) here back on February 18.

Waller has an outstanding George Ryder Stakes record having prepared seven champions since 2009 boosted by the four-peat of the mighty Winx (2016-19).

Along with Osipenko this year he is also represented by the $9.50 third elect Fangirl who ran third in the Apollo and second in the Chipping Norton Stakes behind Anamoe her latest two.

The four-year-old daughter of Sebring chases her first turf triumph since the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (1850m), run last year at Newcastle, back in March of 2022.

The other single-figure fancy at George Ryder Stakes odds of $7 is the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Artorius racing second-up off a Group 1 Canterbury Stakes win fresh.

The internationally performed Flying Artie entire was huge in Europe last year enjoying two Group 1 placings in the UK, and after a huge return looks the danger again drawn the rails with Mark Zahra coming aboard.

The George Ryder Stakes 2023 runs as Race 7 at 4:00pm (AEDT) on Saturday’s 10-race Rosehill card.
