New Trainer David Hayes is impressed with Americain’s progress since acquiring the entire last week.

Americain was transferred to Hayes after a long winded decision process by the horses’s Australian-based connections.

The seven-year-old is preparing for a 2012 autumn campaign before a probable stud career at the end of next year.

Americain is likely to remain spelled until after Christmas following his successful spring carnival.

“He has a great nature and is doing very well,” Hayes said.

“He has been here four or five days and he is just having a very easy time familiarising himself with the property for a couple of weeks with no pressure.

“It is all a bit new to him but we are showing him how to go out in the paddock which he has never really done.

“He is a sensible horse and I think he will adjust pretty well.”

Americain, who won the 2010 Melbourne Cup, finished an unlucky fourth in this year’s race before easily outdoing his opposition in the Group 2 Zipping Classic last start.

The horse has been beaten in just one of five starts in Australia and is expected to be one of the big players in the coming autumn.
