Trainer Bjorn Baker is happy for his three year old colt Addictive Nature to take on the older horses at weight for age in the Group 2 $250,000 The Star Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Addictive Nature has drawn barrier five in the nine horse Apollo Stakes field and will be ridden by Adam Hyeronimus who replaces Jason Collett who will be aboard the Chris Waller trained Comin’ Through (barrier 8).

Collett was aboard the Savabeel colt when he finished a first up third behind Trapeze Artist and Showtime in the Group 2 $200,000 Sydney Markets Limited Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on February 3 and Baker said back on top of the ground would be to his advantage.

“We threw him in the deep end and if he can run in the money again we will be thrilled,’’ Baker told the RacingNSW News Desk.

“We are yet to see the best of him and hopefully that will be Saturday. I’m very confident he is better on top of the ground.

“As long as he runs a good race we are on target and we have options going forward.’’

“It was a good run, I don’t think the track helped him and he got blocked a little bit but I thought fitness wise he has come on a lot. We’ll be more positive with him on Saturday up in trip.’’

The Kris Lees trained Prized Icon has drawn the inside gate with Glyn Schofield sticking with the 2016 Victoria Derby winner after partnering him first up when second to Lanciato in the Listed $150,000 Carrington Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on January 27.

The Mark Newnham trained Lanciato is racing in outstanding form with wins at his last two starts and will jump from barrier six.

Final Field for the 2018 Apollo Stakes (1400m)
