A dramatic betting plunge will come off if Perth filly Lady Cosmology can beat the older mares in the Group 1 $600,000 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville today.
The money was quick to arrive for Lady Cosmology after she opened up at $12 with Ladbrokes.com.au when the final field was released on Tuesday.
Lady Cosmology’s price continued to tumble and on race morning the Simon Miller trained three year old was sitting at the top of the market at $4.80 ahead of her main rivals Spright and Cool Passion at $5.50.
The Universal Ruler filly is stepping up to Group 1 company for the first time but the weight of money suggests that she is going to improve on her last start third as an odds on favourite in the Listed $100,000 Sheila Gwynne Classic (1400m) at Ascot in Perth on April 19.
Miller said that Lady Cosmology has travelled over to Adelaide in great style after producing a race winning gallop before she hopped on the plane.
“Her final bit of work back home last weekend was off the charts,’’ Miller told The Advertiser.
“And when she works like it correlates to race day, the only query will be the track.
“It sets up really nicely for her, she looks unbelievable she travelled over super.’’
Lady Cosmology will jump from gate thirteen in the fourteen horse Robert Sangster Stakes field but Miller is not too concerned about the wide barrier and expects Luke Currie to let the filly use her natural gate speed and settled on the pace.
“She musters pretty quick, she’ll spring and rock along,’’ Miller said.
“I think the reason punters love backing her, every time she races, she’s there.”
“You look at her record, she’s always in the race.”
The well performed Garry Frazer trained Spright will jump from the outside gate with Damien Oliver in the saddle and is coming off a last start seventh to White Moss in the Group 2 $300,000 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Day Two of The Championships on April 13.
The Tony McEvoy trained Cool Passion has recovered from a hoof injury and will be having her first run since finishing fourth to Trapeze Artist in the Group 1 $500,000 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick on March 9.
