Kiwi three year old The Bostonian has earned himself a Spring Carnival campaign after winning the Group 3 $125,000 XXXX Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) at the Sunshine Coast last Saturday.

The Bostonian made it three wins from three starts during the 2018 Queensland Winter Racing Carnival and Cambridge trainer Tony Pike said that the Jimmy Choux gelding will be given his chances to claim more Stakes prizemoney in the Spring.
Pike said that he and The Bostonian would head back home to New Zealand before working on a 2018 Spring Carnival program.
“It is obviously a step up for the Sydney and Melbourne races. But he has done what we wanted and deserves a chance. We will work out where when the dust settles,” Pike said.
The Bostonian’s Winter campaign was far from trouble free with Pike having to reshape the gelding’s program on several occasions because of wide barriers and injury and had thought of heading back to the Shaky Isles when things started to go wrong.
“It has been well documented we scratched him a couple of times early because of wide barriers and then he got bitten but a green ant or spider,” Pike said.
“We had to treat him and by the time he was ready to race the winter was pretty well over.”
“But we had confidence in him and at least he got to acclimatise here.”
Pike had to abandon a start in the Group 2 $350,000 Ascot Green Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Doomben on June 9 but did acquire plenty of travel expenses and more with wins in the Listed $125,000 Kirin Daybreak Lover (1200m) at the Sunshine Coast on June 10 and in a three year old Plate at Doomben on June 23 before winning the Sunshine Coast Guineas.
Top Queensland jockey Michael Cahill has been aboard The Bostonian for all of his three wins over the Winter Carnival and believes the three year old has a bright future following his latest win in the Sunshine Coast Guineas as the $2.60 favourite.
“He is a pretty good horse with a bright future,” Cahill said.
The Bostonian heads back home to New Zealand after taking his winning tally to six wins from nine starts and boosting his prizemoney earnings to $275,442.
