Doomben 10,000 winner English has been locked in for a slot in the 2018 $13m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 13.
English will run for slot holder Damion Flower and the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained mare will be looking for a better result this year after finishing sixth to Redzel in the inaugural running of The Everest last year.
English has been a consistent Group 1 performer since running second to stablemate Vancouver in the 2015 Group 1 $3.5m Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill and claimed her second Group 1 victory during this year’s Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.
A brilliant ride from Tim Clark saw English power to the line to overhaul Impending and Le Romain to take the honours in the Group 1 $700,000 Kirin Doomben 10,000 (1200m) at Doomben on May 12 which added to her win in the Group 1 $600,000 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick during the 2016 Sydney Autumn Carnival.
Jadeskye Racing’s Damion Flower said that he was honoured to be associated with the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable along with English’s owners Newhaven Park.
“Jadeskye Racing is honoured to have secured outstanding Dual G1 winner & this years G1 Doomben 10,000 winning Mare “ ENGLISH “ for our 2018 EVEREST SLOT with The famous Newhaven Colours and Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott Team,” Jadeskye Racing tweeted.
The inclusion of English in the 2018 The Everest sees the final field of twelve half completed and the Encosta De Lago mare joins the other confirmed runners Trapeze Artist (Aquis Farm, slot holder), In Her Time (TAB), Redzel (Yulong Investments), Brave Smash (Chris Waller Racing) and Shoals (The Star Casino).
The Team Snowden trained Redzel and multiple Group 1 winner Trapeze Artist are sharing the early favouritism for The Everest at $4.50 with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of In Her Time, stablemates Santa Ana Lane and Shoals, and Nature Strip all sharing the next line of betting at $10.
English is marked at $16 alongside of the Lindsay Park trained Vega Magic at $16.
Stradbroke Handicap winner Santa And Lane is yet to secure a slot while the Darren Weir trained three year old Nature Strip also created a lot of interest for The Everest after his sensational win last Saturday down the Flemington straight in the $120,000 Great Ocean Road Three Year Old Handicap over 1100m.
