The Tony McEvoy trained filly Bring Me Roses is headed towards the VRC Oaks following her impressive win in the Group 2 $200,000 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington today.

Bring Me Roses was a maidener heading into today’s race but is now one of the main chances for the Group 1 $1m VRC Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on November 9 which will be run under the new sponsor’s name, the Kennedy Oaks after being known as the Crown Oaks.

Luke Currie, who does a lot of riding for the McEvoy stable, settled Bring Me Roses ($17) in the second half of the field and brought her with a well-timed run in the straight to score a two and a quarter lengths win over the $21 chance Hiyaam with the leader and $2.70 favourite Leather‘N’Lace holding on for third.

Stable representative Michael Shepherdson said that Bring Me Roses was looking for the bigger Flemington track of today’s race after running second in the Listed $100,000 Morphettville Guineas over 1600m at Morphettville on September 9 and will be better suited over the Oaks distance.

“Even though she was a maiden, she had good form, stakes placed a couple of time,” Shepherdson said.

“I know Tony was excited to get her to Flemington on the big track and just see what she can do.”

“Luke gave her a really nice ride. Just went through her gears and she was very strong late.”

“She will train on towards the Wakeful and then into the Oaks. She has got good condition on her.”

Bring Me Roses’ next run will be in the Group 2 $300,000 Mumm Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on November 4 which will be her final lead up run for the VRC Oaks.
