A better barrier draw and bit more luck can see Gold Symphony head to the spelling paddock as the winner of the Listed $150,000 Winter Challenge (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Gold Symphony scored a solid win two starts back in the Listed $150,000 Civic Stakes (1350m) at Rosehill on July 1 but was then out of luck from a wide barrier when eleventh to Slightly Sweet in a blanket finish in the Listed $150,000 ATC Winter Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on July 15.
From barrier three in the eleven horse Winter Challenge field, premiership leading jockey Hugh Bowman will be able to find all the breaks to give Gold Symphony every chance to find the winner’s stall again.
Stablemate Snippets Land suffered the same fate when ninth in the Winter Stakes and will be better suited from barrier six with Corey Brown in the saddle.
“They’ve drawn to their favour and with more luck in running they’re going to be very hard to beat,” co-trainer Paul Snowden told AAP.
Paul Snowden, who trains in partnership with his father Peter, is hoping Gold Symphony can go out on a winning note at the end of a long, widely travelled, campaign.
“He’s had a good prep. He had that early winter through Canberra (in March), had a break then resumed at Scone and went on through to Brisbane,” Snowden said.
“He’s done an extremely good job.”
The Snowdens will also saddle up Extensible in the Winter Challenge and the five year old mare is coming off a last start eighth in the Winter Challenge.
Extensible has also drawn nicely at barrier four with Kerrin McEvoy to ride again.
Gold Symphony and the Chris Waller trained Liapari are having a tight battle at the top of the Bletchingly Stakes market order at Ladbrokes.com.au and on Thursday afternoon were sharing favouritism at $4.80 each.
