In-form sprinter Burning Passion will chase a hat trick of wins when he steps out for the first time for new trainer Mark Newnham in the Listed $150,000 ATC Winter Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Burning Passion was one of the many horses James Cummings had to give up when he recently took up the role as head trainer for the powerful Godolphin stable and the five year old was the last winner he saddled up as a freelance trainer.

Cummings took Burning Passion to Brisbane for the Winter Carnival and after winning a 1200m BenchMark 95 Handicap at Eagle Farm, the Darby Syndicated horse then went on to win the Group 3 $175,000 W.J. Healy Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on June 24.

“Scott Darby told me I would be getting two of Darby Racing’s horses from James. Then after he won in Brisbane James decided to give him one more run in the Healy Stakes,” Newnham told AAP.

“That means he’s come to me as a 100-rater.

“He’s a nice horse to get and I’ve been happy with him since he joined me.”

Newnham has kept Burning Passion a bit on the fresh side and said he felt great for his stable debut on Saturday.

“James changed his training around to keep him fresher,” Newnham said.

“I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel.

“He hasn’t done a lot of work since he’s been here. I rode him this morning and he felt good and he will run on Saturday with Josh Parr to ride.”

Josh Parr will be having is first race ride on Burning Passion who has drawn barrier eight in the final field of thirteen plus three emergencies.

Top weight Gold Symphony wasn’t given any favours at the barrier draw, coming up with gate twelve but has leading Group 1 jockey Hugh Bowman to help him offset that disadvantage.

The Team Snowden trained Gold Symphony earned the impost of 59kg following his late finishing win over The Monstar in the Listed $150,000 Civic Stakes (1350m) at Rosehill on July 1.
