Classy filly Miss Gunpowder is ready to explode when she lines up in the Listed $100,000 Projection Graphics Redelva Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
Miss Gunpowder will be having her second run back from a spell after a first up second to Viddora in a 1050m three year old Handicap at Morphettville on April 9 and trainer Phillip Stokes is expecting her to be vastly improved.
“She’s a classy filly and she’ll be hard to beat,” Stokes told Racing.com’s Racing Ahead on RSN 927.
“I thought it was pretty good, the horse that won was rock hard fit and had an easier run than us.”
“Her last 600m was very quick, she’d only had the one trial and she’s taken benefit out of it.”
“She needed the hit out that’s why I elected to run her in the restricted race and now that she has that run under her belt she will run better again.”
The lightly raced Miss Gunpowder showed her class during the 2015 Melbourne Spring Carnival with a win in the Group 2 $200,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield before running eighth to Stay With Me in the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield again two weeks later.
Stokes will also saddle up Cocoa Doll in the Redelva Stakes and he can her finishing in the prizemoney again after scoring first up in a 1200m BenchMark 64 Handicap at Morphettville a fortnight ago.
“I didn’t think she could win, I thought at 1200m she would be found wanting, but she just strolled away from them and she has taken a lot off benefit out of it,” Stokes said.
“I am a lot happier with her than I was two weeks ago, she is going to be an each way chance.
“Miss Gunpowder will have it over her but not by a lot, she has improved a lot this filly.”
Jockey Dom Tourneur is certain to give Miss Gunpowder the run of the race from the inside barrier and the filly is currently on the third line of betting at $4.40 at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Redelva Stakes behind Super Cash at $2.50 and Don’t Doubt Mamma at $4.20.
The Andrew Noblet trained Super Cash was a winner two starts back in the Listed $$120,000 Goodwood Racecourse Trophy (1100m) at Flemington on March 12 before heading to Sydney were she finished fifth to Tempt Me Not in the Group 3 $200,000 Dilmah Tea P J Bell Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on day one of ‘The Championships’ on April 2.
The Tony McEvoy trained Don’t Doubt Mamma also has very good Autumn Carnival form and after winning the Group 3 $150,000 The Vanity (1400m) at Flemington on February 20 finished second in the Group 2 $200,000 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 12.
