The Ciaron Maher trained Azkadellia will be backing up on the second day of ‘The Championships’ after finishing third at Randwick on the first day last Saturday to super mare Winx in the Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m).

Azkadellia made up plenty of ground from the back of the field for Glen Boss in the saddle but Damien Oliver gets the nod this week on the four year old who has drawn barrier nine in the final field of sixteen plus two emergencies.

Group 1 winning mare Suavito has drawn poorly at barrier fifteen in the original draw and trainer Nigel Blackiston has stuck with jockey Luke Currie who combined with the mare to win the Group 1 $500,000 Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 13.

Suavito has been freshened up since her last start ninth to Preferment in the Group 1 $1.5m Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 12.

The Danny O’Brien trained Miss Rose De Lago was back in the winner’s circle last start with an all the way win in the Group 2 $200,000 Sunline Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on March 24.

James McDonald is back in the saddle and the five year old is certain to go forward again from barrier eight.

English import Noble Protector ran her best race for twelve months when second to Miss Rose De Lago in the Sunline Stakes, the race she won last year before running third in the 2015 Queen Of The Turf Stakes behind Amanpour.

Zanbagh put her herself into contention for the Queen Of The Turf Stakes after winning the Group 2 $175,000 Ascend Sales Trophies Emancipation Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on March 26.

The John Thompson trained mare has drawn nicely at barrier six and will be ridden again by Blake Shinn.
