Capitalist has been the clear 2016 Magic Millions Classic favourite since he took out the Breeders Plate on debut and he is set to start the $2 million event at the Gold Coast this afternoon as an odds-on favourite.
Capitalist drifted out to as long as $1.80 after the Magic Millions Classic field was released on Monday afternoon, but the short price has not stopped punters throwing their support behind the son of Written Tycoon and he has now been backed into $1.65.
The juvenile cruised to victory in both the Listed Breeders Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick on October 3 and the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes (1100m) at Wyong on December 17, while Team Snowden are confident that he has recovered from the minor temperature that ruled him out of a barrier trial on December 29.
Team Snowden also have Niccolance in the Magic Millions Classic field and he is currently on the second line of betting with Ladbrokes at a quote of $10.
Niccolance made his racing debut with a second place finish behind the talented Astern in the Surf Meets Turf Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick on December 5 and he chased Capitalist home in the Magic Millions Classic.
Kelso Wood knows what it takes to win the Magic Millions Classic and Nikitas has been one of the only horses backed to record an upset win over Capitalist.
Nikitas made his racing debut with a dominant five lengths victory in the Canadian Club Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on December 5 and he finished a tough third behind Zelady’s Night Out and Slumber Party in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Boxing Day.
Zelady’s Night Out has recorded three wins from as many race starts, but she has been one of the big drifters in Magic Millions Classic betting markets after she was allocated barrier 14 at the barrier draw on Tuesday.
The Myboycharlie filly showed plenty of talent to take out both the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1050m) at Doomben on December 12 as well as the BJ McLachlan Plate, but that has not stopped her drifting from $9 out to $13 in the last few days.
There has been a sprinkle of support in the 2016 Magic Millions Classic market with Ladbrokes for Punishing ($81 into $61), Candika ($$21 into $15), Mooshakissa ($81 into $71), Rainy Day Woman ($201 into $41) and Zafina ($151 into $126), while Nikitas ($10 out to $11), Just Orm ($15 out to $21), Faraway Town ($41 out to $34) and Rare Occurrence ($51 out to $61) have all been on the drift.
