Capitalist has been backed into 2016 Magic Millions Classic odds of $1.75 and he remains a dominant favourite to maintain his unbeaten record in the $2 million event at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Capitalist has been on top of Magic Millions Classic betting markets since he made his racing debut with a comfortable victory in the Listed Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick on October 3 and his odds shortened again when he returned to the races with another very soft victory in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic on December 17.
There were concerns that Capitalist would not make it to the Gold Coast when he missed a barrier trial on December 29 due to a minor temperature, but co-trainer Paul Snowden confirmed that the son of Written Tycoon was in outstanding condition and is deserving of his place as a clear Magic Millions Classic favourite.
While Capitalist is on top of the 2016 Magic Millions Classic betting market, the market mover with Ladbrokes has been Kelso Wood-trained Nikitas, who has been backed into $10.
Nikitas made his racing debut with a dominant five lengths victory in the Canadian Club Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on December 5 and he was far from disgraced when third behind Zelady’s Night Out and Slumber Party in the BJ McLachlan Stakes at the Gold Coast on Boxing Day.
The other horse that is on the second line of 2016 Magic Millions Classic betting market is the undefeated Zelady’s Night Out, who has drifted from $8 to $10 after the barrier draw was conducted earlier in the week.
Zelady’s Night Out made her racing debut with an impressive victory in the Flexi Membership Handicap (1050m) at Doomben on November 14 and she justified his short price to take out the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1050m) at Doomben on December 12 before she made it three victories on the trot in the BJ McLachlan Stakes at the Gold Coast on Boxing Day.
The big drifter in betting has been Team Snowden-trained Mooshakissa, who is now out to Magic Millions Classic odds of $81 after being available at $41 earlier in the week.
Mooshakissa made her racing debut with a credible third in the Winners Maiden Plate (1000m) at Warwick Farm on November 25 and she took out the Hyland Race Colours Plate (1100m) at the same venue on December 9 before she finished second behind Souchez in the Schweppes Plate (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on December 19.
There has been a sprinkling of support in Magic Millions Classic betting markets for Sundance ($41 into $34), Candika ($21 into $19), Faraway Town ($41 into $34) and Rare Occurrence ($81 into $51), while Niccolance ($10 out to $11), Just Orm ($15 out to $16), Punishing ($61 out to $71) and Slumber Party ($15 out to $16) have all been on the drift.
