The 2014 The Galaxy odds of Temple Of Boom have continued to shorten; with the veteran sprinter now available at a quote of $8 to become just the second horse in history to win the Group 1 event on multiple occasions.
Temple Of Boom opened at The Galaxy odds of $12, but the expected wet track at Rosehill Gardens and the withdrawal of Snitzerland has seen plenty of punters put their support behind the seven-year-old.
Hugh Bowman will partner Temple Of Boom in The Galaxy this weekend and believes that the son of Piccolo is a genuine winning chance in the Group 1 race after he was impressed with the sprinters effort in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick on March 15.
“I was really taken by this horses run in the Challenge Stakes,” Bowman told Racing Ahead this morning.
“He was laid up behind Snitzerland and when they quickened at the 500, the 1000 metre pace was just a bit quick for him.
“Getting onto rain affected ground and up to 1100 metres, I think that brings him right into play and I think that his run in the Challenge was good enough to suggest that he could win this given the conditions.”
Temple Of Boom will jump from barrier 11 in The Galaxy, following the withdrawal of Snitzerland this morning, and Bowman is confident that he will have no trouble getting the Tony Gollan-trained galloper in a good position in the early stages of the race.
Bowman plans on positioning Temple Of Boom towards the tail of the field and he believes that the expected quick tempo and wet track give the gelding an excellent chance of scoring his second win at Group 1 level.
“It is not going to affect him too much because he is the type of horse that races best when he is ridden a bit quiet,” Bowman said.
“There is going to be good pace and even without Snitzerland there is going to be genuine pace.
“It just brings this horse right into play.”
The 2014 The Galaxy betting market is extremely competitive; with Rain Affair ($6) currently a narrow favourite from Villa Verde ($6.50), Kencella ($7.50), Sessions ($8.50), Temple Of Boom ($8.50) and Famous Seamus ($9.50).
