Paul Messara is confident that his three-year-old colt Rekindled Alliance will continue to make a name for himself when he runs in tomorrow’s Up And Coming Stakes at Warwick Farm.

The trainer believes the well-bred colt has the true makings of a successful stallion.

“He’s a lovely colt,” Messara said.

“He was purchased at the (2010) Easter Sales.

“He’s the full brother to Rekindled Interest who at the time hadn’t appeared.

“He’s by Redoute’s Choice so obviously very well bred.

“He was $400,000, so he was a decent amount of money.

“But at this stage if he can come up and win a Stakes race then he’ll make that back.”

Messara is eagerly watching the weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow as he decides whether or not to run Rekindled Alliance on a soft track.

“It’s likely to get more rain in the next 24 hours,” he said.

“It’s a bit of an ask to get him to run round on a heavy track.

“He doesn’t have that residual fitness you’d like.”

The trainer was surprised when Rekindled Alliance came out and won so easily when on debut at Canterbury last week.

“I’d always marked him as a miler type,” Messara said.

“I thought (the 1100m) would be too short for him.

“So it was a very pleasant surprise.

“He accelerated really quickly.”

Messara will also run his Exceed And Excel filly Double Ranga in the Up And Coming Stakes tomorrow.

The three-year-old was originally nominated for both the Up And Coming and the Silver Shadow Stakes for three-year-old fillies.

“I thought (the Up And Coming Stakes) was the easier of the two,” Messara said.

While Messara is confident that Rekindled Alliance can win tomorrow’s race, he is not willing to rule out the speedy Double Ranga.

“She’s fit and well (and I) couldn’t be happier with her,” he said.

“She can handle the soft track and she’s also a fair bit fitter than the other guy.”
