Vanna Girl collected her fourth straight win with a stunning victory in the Group 2 $175,000 Magic Millions The Roses (1800m) at Eagle Farm last Saturday and co-trainer Toby Edmonds said the Husson filly would now be prepared for he 2020 Melbourne Spring Carnival.

Toby Edmonds trains in partnership with his son Trent and the Gold Coast Team are considering setting Vanna Girl for the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on October 17.

“We will get her ready for Melbourne now. She could end up in a Caulfield Cup or something like that,” Toby Edmonds said after her Roses win.

“I think she’s a bit better than a Matriarch filly to be truthful.”

“She’s a good filly. She’s still immature, she’s wiry, she’s long, she’s just raw. As a five-year-old mare, if we can keep her together for that long, she’s a Group 1 horse.”

The Edmonds stable had originally had their sights set on the Group 1 Queensland Oaks for Vanna Girl but when the coronavirus hit and the 2020 Queensland Winter Carnival was dismantled, the filly lost her chance of winning a Group 1 trophy as a three year old.

“We thought we were going to go through her three-year-old career without a stakes win,” Trent said. “We thought she would win a Group 1. She was our Oaks filly all over. That was the plan.”

Vanna Girl is now the winner of seven of her ten race starts and has collected just over $370,000 in prizemoney.
