The Darren Weir trained Tradesman could continue his heavy workload after being included in the twenty nominations for the Listed $175,000 Scott McMahon Electrical Caloundra Cup (2400m) at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

Tradesman has competed at the last two Saturday’s during the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival and if Weir gives the go ahead for the six year old to take his place in the Caloundra Cup this weekend, the former Western Australian trained stayer will be lining up for his third run in three weeks.

Weir has tested Tradesman on the Sunshine Coast track three starts back when second to Egg Tart in the Group 2 $200,000 Bradford Access Insulation P.J. O’Shea Stakes (2200m) on June 2.

Tradesman then had a two week break before winning the Listed $175,000 Channel 7 Ipswich Cup (2150m) at Ipswich on June 16 and then backed up seven days later to finish second to Divine Unicorn in the Group 3 $200,000 Lazy Yak Tattersall’s Cup (2200m) at Doomben last Saturday.

Newcastle trainer Kris Lees is contemplating bringing veteran stayer Doukhan to Queensland and the nine year old is among the nominations for the Caloundra Cup.

Doukhan showed that he still has plenty of miles in his old legs and is coming off a last start second to Plot Twist in the $100,000 Stayer’s Cup over 3200m at Randwick on June 9.

Doukhan is also nominated for the Listed $125,000 Winter Cup (2400m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Also among the Caloundra Cup nominations is the Chris Munce trained First Crush who found his best recent form stepping back up the middle distance when beaten a lip last start by Tradesman in the Ipswich Cup.

Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller has two nominations for the Caloundra Cup with My Giuliano and Tumultuous.

Both stayers are struggling to find their best form with their most recent efforts seeing them finish ninth, My Giuliano, and tenth, Tumultuous, in the Ipswich Cup.

The Kiwi contingent is led by the Nigel Tiley trained Megablast who performed creditably at his first run at the Sunshine Coast with a last start third behind Egg Tart and Tradesman in the P.J. O’Shea Stakes.

Also from the Shaky Isles is the Tony Pike trained Sacred Master who is coming off a last start ninth to Divine Unicorn in the Tattersall’s Cup.
