2016 Hobartville Stakes Tips: Press Statement The Horse To Beat

Form analyst Daniel O’Sullivan has Press Statement on top of his 2016 Hobartville Stakes tips and he is confident that the Caulfield Guineas winner will be very tough to beat in the Group 1 event at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Press Statement started his 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a strong second behind Exosphere in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 29 and he had no luck in running in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at the same venue on September 12 before he was too good for his rivals in both the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) on September 26 and the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 10.

O’Sullivan told Radio TAB that Press Statement has easily the highest rating figures in the Hobartville Stakes field, is set to get the run of the race with Hugh Bowman in the saddle and represents great value at his Hobartville Stakes odds of $2.60.

“I think that is a pretty good price for Press Statement,” O’Sullivan said.

“His credentials and his efforts are well exposed, he is a Caulfield Guineas winner, he can win fresh and he is good at 1400 metres.

“What I really like about him here is that he looks to just work across and find a beautiful position on the map.

“There is a fair bit of speed in this race with Spill The Beans and maybe Dal Cielo drawn inside and just with the natural speed of both runners, the field could really spread out here.

“If Press Statement can begin well and they are positive on him then that can create a nice opportunity for him to work across from his barrier and he is going to end up in a lovely position just a couple of lengths behind the leaders.

“With his turn-of-foot over the final stages, I think that he is going to be extremely hard to hold-off in this race.

“He has an edge in ratings on the other horses in the field – a clear and comfortable edge – and he has the consistency that some of these other horses lack.

“From a betting prospective and a betting confidence point of view, you always like to see that consistency in horses.

“He has had two trials leading up to this, which is the same as what he had last preparation, and he looks very likely to hit a rating mark that is going to be very hard for these horses to beat.”

Press Statement is currently available at 2016 Hobartville Stakes odds of $2.60 with Ladbrokes and he is a clear favourite from Spill The Beans ($6), Vanbrugh ($8.50) and Montaigne ($9.50).
