Spillway is on top of the 2014 Zipping Classic tips of form analyst Adam Blencowe and he believes that the imported stayer is the horse to beat in the Group 2 event at Sandown this afternoon.
Spillway missed out on a start in the Caulfield Cup after he was blocked for a run in the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on September 20 and he failed to fire in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) at Royal Randwick on October 4, but he returned to his best form with a fast-finishing fourth in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on November 1.
Blencowe said that he was impressed with the Mackinnon Stakes run of Spillway and he believes that the Rail Link entire represents good value at his current Zipping Classic odds of $4.20.
“It is interesting what to make of Spillway here,” Blencowe told RSN.
“He rates the best with that last start effort there; I thought that he was really good when he closed off to finish fourth in the Mackinnon there and if he can repeat that effort it would be good enough to win a Zipping Classic.
“I have got him on top and I have him flipped with Prince Of Penzance in my market, but I am a little bit wary because there has to some bit of a query on him at the trip.
“I think that he was a little bit close to a strong galloper in The Metrop and he obviously showed last time that run was not his true form.
“I am happy enough to give him another chance the price there.”
Prince Of Penzance is currently on top of 2014 Zipping Classic betting markets and Blencowe admits that the Moonee Valley Cup winner will prove hard to beat in the Group 2 event, while he is not ruling out OTI Racing-owned Au Revoir, who finished a credible eighth in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 4.
“Prince Of Penzance is probably just inside the quote that he should be, but he comes off the same form lines as the past two winners of this race and we have him rated better than both of those,” Blencowe said.
“I think that he is a pretty big threat.
“Au Revoir, there wasn’t much between them in the Moonee Valley Cup and I thought his Melbourne Cup effort was perfectly sound.
“I think that he still pretty competitive in a race like this.”
Prince Of Penzance remains Zipping Classic favourite from Spillway ($4.20), Green Moon ($4.40), Au Revoir ($5), Epingle ($10), Sea Moon ($12), Rawnaq ($15) and Rialya ($101).
