The 2019 Futurity Stakes is a Group 1 race held at Caulfield Racecourse annually in late February or early March.

Run under weight-for-age conditions, the Futurity Stakes is worth a total of $500,000 in prize money and is run over a distance of 1,400 metres.

The Futurity Stakes is held on the same day as the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, Group 1 Oakleigh Plate, Group 2 Peter Young Stakes, Group 2 Caulfield Autumn Classic, Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes Group 3 Zeditave Stakes and Group 3 Mannerism Stakes.

The first Futurity Stakes was run in 1897 when it was won by a horse called Resolute. The Futurity Stakes was run over a distance of 1,800 metres for one year in 1979. The race was also modified to a 1,600 metre race from 2006-2010 in order to be part of the Asian Mile Challenge. The Futurity Stakes reverted back to its original 1,400 metres in 2011.

Horses that compete in the Futurity Stakes often come via avenues such as the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes in February. Typhoon Tracy (2010) was one horse who completed the CF Orr Stakes and Futurity Stakes double. Horses that perform well in the Futurity Stakes will often go on to compete in the Group 1 Australian Cup at Flemington in March. Niconero (2009) was one horse to achieve the sought-after Futurity Stakes and Australian Cup double.

Many great horses have won the Futurity Stakes, including The Hawk (1923), Amounis (1929), Phar Lap (1930), Ajax (1938-40), Lord (1959), Sky High (1961), Wenona Girl (1963), Gunsynd (1972), Manikato (1979-81, 83), Rubiton (1987), Vo Rogue (1988), Redelva (1991), Reset (2004), Typhoon Tracy (2010), More Joyous (2011).
